Contact Lens Dilemma Zone

In Malaysia, survey revealed that 6 out of 10 spectacle wearers would love to try contact lens. But, they are in dilemma. Questions pop-up in minds such as;

• Where can I get my professional advice on contact lens?

Do your homework first before stepping into an eyecare practitioner. Go online and check out more information about contact lens, understand slight about contact lens term and this will apparently be easier for eyecare practitioner and you.

• When is the appropriate time to start wearing?

Do not be scare. Millions of people are using contact lens now. So, you are not the guinea pig. Always start wearing when your mental are fully prepared and ready. Remind yourself, do not give up easily and believe that you can.

• Which type of contact lens should I start with?

All depends on you.

a) If you are occasional wearer, then go for daily disposable contact lenses. For example; Soflens Daily, Focus Dailies, Acuvue Moist, Acuvue TruEye, Biomedics Daily and others.

b) If you just going to wear for few hours a day, then normal monthly disposable lenses. For example; Soflens 59, Soflens 38, Acuvue Clear, Biomedics 55, Biomedics 38 and others.

c) If you understand that you have a busy schedule daily, then go for better quality lenses that will enable 5x more oxygen to enter your eyes. This will enable you enjoy the comfort of wear contact lenses throughout the day. For example; Acuvue Advance, Acuvue Oasys, Air Optix, Pure Vision, Biofinity and others.

d) If you have high astigmatism (spectacle astigmatism prescription of -0.75D and above), then opt for contact lens with astigmatism. For example, Soflens Toric 66, Biomedics Toric, Air Optix Astigmatism, Acuvue Oasys Astigmatism and others.

• How do I know which brand is suitable for me?

Knowing your eyes curve is a factor. However, I prefer to have a wonderful first time experience. Acuvue Advance (2 weeks disposable) would really be a very suitable product to start with, as the feeling of wearing contact lens is awesome, right at the first moment.

• What if I cannot get used to the contact lens?

I do not understand why people would say that they cannot get use to contact lens wear. With proper advice for eyecare practitioner and your full compliance, getting use to the contact lens will never be an issue, unless you have certain eye problems. Thus, seek for proper consultation from your eyecare practitioner.

I understand such dilemma that you are facing. However, something you cannot avoid is ‘try an error’.
